その距離、10歳 (Sono kyori, juu-sai)

Milky Chain is back after another long hiatus! This time around, the theme of their newest series is “age differences.” The April Fool’s version of this series’ announcement stated that the age difference was 41 years old, which would have made for a very… different story. 🙃

Synopses (Paraphrased):

The first volume of this series features 28-year-old 保科恭一 (Hashina Kyouichi), a middle-school math teacher. Since he’s overly serious and a bit awkward, Kyouichi has a hard time when it comes to joking around and being playful. Kyouichi is also practical and straightforward in his emotions and actions, and can be a bit critical toward himself.

He transferred from your former school to his current position at a middle school.

While Kyouichi has quite a lot of experience with romance and dating, none of his former relationships lasted very long. He believes that was due primarily to his inability to understand the emotions of women, and react sensibly to them.

In this volume, you’re a first year university student, and one of Kyouichi’s former students. When you were in the second year of middle school, Kyouichi was a new math teacher at your school, and was also the associate advisor for the tennis club. (Even though he’s bad at physical activities…)

The second volume features 綾瀬直 (Ayase Nao), a 19-year-old, first year university student. Nao, is now (no pun intended) living on his own in order to be closer to his university, and it’s been one year since he started living alone.

Since it’s his first time living alone, Nao can’t cook for himself, is bad at cleaning his place, and is generally struggling through early adulthood. Earnest, with every emotion written on his face, Nao is a cheerful, sociable wanko type that isn’t shy in the slightest. He often acts before he thinks, and finds thinking about complex topics difficult.

Nao isn’t conscious of his skill in spoiling people, but he’s pretty good at it.

In this volume, you’re an office lady who was recently dumped by a (now-ex) long-time partner who was around the same age as you.

The third volume features 戸松浩紀 (Tomatsu Hiroki), a 23-year-old company worker. Having recently graduated from the mid-year new employee training, Hiroki has now been assigned to your department.

Since Hiroki was an excellent student during college and during employee training, a lot of people consider him to be “brimming with potential.” Clever, quick on his feet, smart, bright, and sociable, Hiroki is the stereotype of a “perfect young man.” While he can be quite methodical about his course of action, it takes him a while to get up to speed in the morning.

In this volume, you’re a capable, experienced office lady with the aura of a hard-working career woman.

The final volume of this series features 日下部凛也 (Kusakabe Rinya), a 40 year-old mystery novel writer.

Known for his sharp, sarcastic literary style in his mystery novels, Rinya is a popular author.

In complete contrast to the atmosphere of his novels, however, Rinya is actually quite a scruffy, vague character, and finds quite a lot of things bothersome. Since he’s often completely observed in his writing, Rinya sometimes forgets to eat and to take a bath.

Rinya is also a heavy smoker, and these traits tend to bother you.

He may occasionally show off a mature side, but it’s normally just to observe your surprised reaction.

In this volume, you’re an editor for a publisher. As both a fan of Rinya’s work, and the author himself, you hold nothing but the utmost respect for him.
